Passion and Enthusiasm

What are the two most powerful forces at work impacting people in our world today?

Number 1 is love. Number 2 is passion.

From Song of Solomon we learn that passion is second only to love in its power. Jealousy, (a similar word for passion), is unyielding as the grave.

Enthusiasm is a great quality to have. The original meaning of the word is stated “as possessed by a god”.

Ok, that’s a small “g”, but it is well within the bounds of what we are considering here to say to be enthusiastic, as it pertains to leading people in worship, is to be possessed by, or like God.

What a wonderful picture this gives us of God receiving our praise and adoration as we worship Him. He is not indifferent! In fact, indifference is the opposite of enthusiasm.

What’s the big deal?

In order to reach your audience, WHAT you communicate can be overshadowed by HOW you communicate.

How many times in your life have you favored one communicator or method over another? The message may be the same, but the WAY THINGS ARE SAID is what you find appealing.

The point here is that in all your preparation with technique, transitions and the like, don’t forget to communicate your passion and enthusiasm.

This can be difficult when technical problems arise, or something is out of tune. But not only will having passion minimize its impact on you, it will refocus your audience to the WHO of worship - and that’s all you and I really want anyway.

People want to be moved. They want to feel something. Lead them there. Go there first. They will follow.
