The Church is seeking to fill the position of Director of Music / Organist. It is hoped to fill the position as soon as possible.
Purpose: The purpose of The Director of Music and Organist is to be responsible for playing the organ at Union Congregational Church and for the preparation and coordination of all music in a way that is supportive of the overall purpose of the Church.
Part Time Position: This is a part time position to provide the planning and preparation, rehearsals, direction of choir(s) and performance of music in worship services (including playing of the organ). Services are year round, however the Choir only rehearse/perform from September through June. Soloists perform in the summer months.
Salary and Benefits: Re-numeration and vacation time will be determined.
Supervision: The Director of Music will be under the supervision of the Senior Minister of the Church.
Music Selection: The Director of Music shall select appropriate musical selections for all scheduled worship services of the Church either from the church's library or new music purchased by the Church. Congregational hymns are selected by the minister. The minister may consult the Director of Music in selecting music for the worship services to allow coordination of the music with the theme of a particular service. The Director of Music is expected to play at specially scheduled services, such as wedding rehearsals, weddings and funerals for an additional fee or arrange for a substitute.
Rehearsals: The Director of Music will plan and direct regular Thursday evening rehearsals and direct the performances of the Church Choir. The Director of Music is also responsible for rehearsing with soloists and ensembles to provide special music for church services.
Meetings: The Director of Music is expected to participate in weekly Tuesday morning staff meetings at the Church and periodic Music Committee meetings. There may also be occasions when the Director of Music is called to meet with other committees to plan other special services i.e. during Advent and Lent.
