Music Director

Dedicated, energetic and visionary Christian musician sought to lead, in cooperation with Pastoral staff, the Worship Committee and congregation volunteers, a music program of our 280 member Presbyterian Church in historic Clifton, Virginia. An ideal candidate will work with our staff and Worship Committee to organize and lead a blended music ministry program of both traditional and contemporary music..

Duties will include:

• Serve as organist/accompanist for two worship services each Sunday and special services for Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.

• Conduct a well established adult choir (late August through mid-June) during weekly practices and Sunday morning services.

• Conduct children’s choir during the school year

• Order and select anthems and music for adult, youth and handbell choirs for church services in coordination with pastoral staff, consult on hymn selection as requested by pastoral staff

• Assist and help coordinate special seasonal music programs, which involve children and include hand bells and annual Christmas pageant.

• Oversee the church music library, music equipment, and supplies and arrange for piano tuning, organ maintenance, and repair, as necessary.

• Assist church Session members with the drafting of a proposed annual music budget.

• Attend Worship Committee meetings, (approximately four per year).

• Advise and work with the Worship Committee to encourage small groups, choirs, soloists, and/or ensembles to provide music during worship services when the adult choir does not sing.

Organ and piano keyboard skills are required. Guitar or other instrumental skills are desirable. Approximately 15-20 hours per week commitment, including Sundays. Newly renovated church facility, friendly staff, and involved congregation. Pleasant working environment. Salary negotiable based on experience. Vacation time is negotiable.
