This part-time position is accountable directly to the Pastor and to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and the Director of Music. The position is required year round.
Responsibilities:
Provides organ/piano music for worship services and other occasional gatherings.
Enhances the service of worship with appropriate music, which assists the congregation in praising and serving God
Establishes a worshipful, positive feeling and movement in the worship service through selection of music appropriate to worship themes.
Provides music for other occasions, as requested, such as weddings, funerals, celebrations, etc.
Provides accompaniment for rehearsals of the choir and other musical groups.
Coordinates/cooperates with the director of music and other music program personnel.
Establishes objectives annually and periodically reports progress toward attaining objectives.
Continue to grow in musicianship.
Performs other related duties as may be requested or required.
Meets with Pastor monthly.
Skills Required:
Knowledge of church music and organ repertoire for church service.
Choir rehearsal techniques
Ability to
o Play organ and piano proficiently.
o Sight-read music.
o Play a wide variety of hymns and transpose hymns as required.
o Improvise
o Accompany both soloists and choirs in rehearsals and services
o Prepare and play prelude, offertory, and postlude
o Work cooperatively with others adults, youth, children, and staff.

WUMC Music Director Position
Introduction:
Our church needs a musical ally that will act as a performer and an organizer of our overall music worship program during both services. This person would musically bridge the traditional and contemporary worship services arranging themes and performances that can be shared between them. They would help us as a congregation extract and organize musical talent from within ourselves, by recruiting members of the congregation to participate in the music ministry on a rotating basis. They would also encourage and arrange special performances by congregation members as well as guest musicians at both services. General personality traits would include excellent communication and organizational skills, an outgoing personality and charisma.
Basic Music Qualifications:
Has a degree or is pursuing a degree in music
Has experience leading or participating in choir and/or musical ensembles
Plays keyboard and a least one other contemporary instrument proficiently
Can sight-read music/Can improvise music
Has knowledge of and experience with traditional hymns and contemporary Christian Music
