Search and Position Summary
The people of College Wesleyan Church are searching for a creative, skilled musician to lead the musical elements of worship in our services and to develop the next generation of church musicians we have in our midst.
Our church in uniquely positioned to influence the future worship leaders and musicians in the church with more than 1,000 college students in attendance from several schools. We feel compelled to expand our staff in the direction of worship by adding this position—in the end doing more to engage our people in worship and train people in leading church music and worship.
Our priorities for this role:
PRIORITY #1 – We want this person to be a developer of people.
We believe they should be energized by the vision of “developing the next generation of worship leaders for the Kingdom of God” and that they will have the skills to equip those future musicians and leaders. They should be able to develop musicians to lead in worship and be engaging in their interactions with young church musicians and worship leaders—being a relational draw to them. But they should also be inter-generational, relating well with people of all ages, and having a “warm spot” in their heart for the seniors in our church. We want this person to be a relational fit with our people and leadership.
PRIORITY #2 – We want this person to be a skilled creative musician.
This person should be able to play musically at a level that inspires other people to participate, follow their leadership, get involved and lead themselves. At some level, they should be able to teach music to others, mentoring those less skilled to become more so but also able to “speak music” to the most gifted among us. We’re eager for someone to be creative musically, even writing songs for worship, and to lead worship well from an instrument they feel at home with. They should have musical flexibility & intuition about the service flow and a sense of the Spirit moving. They would also long to work in a collaborative environment where services are designed by a team and multiple other staff and volunteers are involved with them in that process.
