First United Methodist, Sacramento, California seeks Director of Music and Worship Arts Coordinator

First United Methodist Church in the arts and culture midtown district of Sacramento, California is seeking a full-time Director of Music & Worship Arts Coordinator who desires to join a dynamic community passionate about ministries of justice and radical hospitality. This is a perfect opportunity to help build vital worship on a solid historical foundation of excellence in collaboration with a creative team. This position requires excitement about, and skills in, a diversity of repertoire for choirs and congregation, a strong commitment to the participation of the people in worship, a sense of the integral role of arts as a strong component in the proclamation of the Word and the role of music in creating a “feel & flow” throughout worship. The ideal candidate will have solid worship leadership and musical skills but also a motivational personality that draws people into discipleship through the worship arts.
Duties include:
. •creative collaboration with the pastor and worship team on design and implementation of weekly worship and additional worship based on the liturgical year
. •leadership and oversight of chancel and youth/children’s and bell choirs (some of these have volunteer directors)
. •keyboard skills (including pipe organ) and/or oversight of contracted musicians (high-level organ skills and piano skills in a diversity of styles a plus)
. •coordination of volunteer instrumentalists and other artists
. •collaboration in the creation of an ongoing weeknight alternative service based on the Deep Well pilot project
. •participation in worship arts as it applies to the social justice ministries of the church
$45,000 - 60,000/yr (depending on experience and abilities)
