Director of Music Ministries

The membership and leadership of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Decatur, GA are immediately seeking a part-time Director of Music Ministries. The Director will:
• Encourage and engage the entire congregation to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ through music
• Have an openness and sensitivity toward the moving of the Holy Spirit
• Lead the congregation in song, increasing the our appreciation and experience of God through music
• Be an energetic musician and worship leader, experienced at piano and/or organ, and capable of leading a choir of willing voices
• Recruit and direct other complimentary musicians (choirs, soloists, brass, percussion, bagpipes, cellist, etc…) to deepen and enrich our experience of God
• Actively and joyfully increase the quality, energy, and number of lay leaders and participants in the music ministries
• Coordinate and plan the music of weekly and seasonal worship, and other ministry events, in conjunction with our pastor and other Directors.
Rehoboth enjoys Sunday morning Worship services at 11am, as well as special, seasonal services, currently including but not limited to Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, All Saint’s, and Christmas Eve. We also plan and provide special education, fellowship, or outreach events, where music would enhance our experience of God, and our ability to reflect God to others. And we have just launched a prototype non-traditional worship service Sunday evenings at 4pm.
The Director would build and lead a team in planning, conducting, promoting, and evaluating the worship and music ministries, and develop and execute plans and associated budgets for worship and music. The Director will need to work collegially and enthusiastically as a member of staff, and should be supportive of the mission of the church, and the leadership. Last the Director should have an appreciation for traditional, contemporary, multi-cultural, and a wide diversity and variety of sacred musical forms, as well as an appreciation for Reformed theological tenets and the ability to choose music or gently modify language to better represent Reformed theological beliefs.
The Director would start January 1, 2011, on a six-month interim basis through June 30, which could then become an installed position, if the Pastor and Director mutually agree. The Director would work 12-15 hours per week. The salary range is $1,000 to $1,250 monthly.
