Christian pianist seeking to glorify Christ
by Jessica Lyn
(Appomattox, VA)
I am a young Christian wife living in Appomattox, VA. I have played piano my whole life and have played professionally for church worship, school graduations, weddings, ceremonies, theater, children's theater, and I compose my own music as well as arrange for other instruments, all mostly volunteer. I have also composed an original soundtrack for Ruf Cut Films in SD. My style is primarily classical, with a new-age twist. My primary influences are jazz elements, Yanni, Chopin, and Debussy.
I would love to put my talents to any entertainment use professinally, but especially for God's kingdom. I love to arrange music, and I can play almost anything I hear. I love a challenge. If I can work with any of God's people, in the church confines or with them in the marketplace, it would be wonderful. I would also like to network with someone who has recording equipment I could use to record my scores.
More specifically, I would like to work professionally as a pianist in Christian theater (with original scores, primarily), and soundtrack for Christian films, as well as play for church group functions, retreats, hymn sings, youth groups, weddings or other celebrations, Christian schools, and evening or holiday services. Being a church member myself, I could not be available to play for another service on Sunday mornings, unless perhaps for a special event.
In a secular setting, I'd love to partner with other musicians to play for fundraisers, dinners, theater, private recitals, and any other venue that requires us sharpening our musical talents and glorifying God in our hard labors. I don't have many venues or connections to help me get on my feet in this area. I believe it's important to branch out into the world as a minister of Christ and the gospel, even if not for the sole purpose of conversion, so for me, playing WITH other Christians is as important as playing FOR other Christians.
Lord willing, God will bring me the right connections so I can shine the light of His spirit, instead of hiding it under a bushel. He gave me a talent I want to share with the world.
