POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing music for worship services and other church events, music leadership and education for members of the music ministry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Organize and manage the music program of the church, including but not limited to: selecting and purchasing music and related materials; obtaining copyright licenses where required; assuring proper maintenance of all music equipment (instruments, library, choir robes); adhering to established budgetary limitations; preparing and submitting annual budget recommendations for future years; attending Worship Committee meetings as an ex officio member.
Plays organ and/or keyboard music for one regularly scheduled Sunday service, including but not limited to hymns, the music of the scheduled liturgical setting, and attendant music (prelude, voluntary, choir anthem and postlude.) Up to two worship services may also be scheduled on Christmas and/or Christmas Eve.
In consultation with the Pastor and the Worship Committee, and subject to their approval, select organ and piano music, choir anthems and special music appropriate to the Lutheran tradition.
Rehearses, directs and accompanies the choirs in their participation in the worship life of Congregation. This includes weekly rehearsals and performances of the choir from September through July.
Plans, provides and leads organ, keyboard and/or choral music for services during the summer when the choir is not performing. Additional non-Sunday services include Ash Wednesday, weekly evening services during Lent, Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday and Thanksgiving Eve.
Works with administrative staff to ensure relevant details of all service music, etc., are included in worship bulletins, and that the information is provided before the printing deadline.
Schedules replacement organist/director during any absence for sickness or vacation. Selects substitutes in consultation with the Pastor.
Recruits and cultivates persons with musical skills as needed for the church.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Arts, Music or equivalent
Previous Choir Director experience
Knowledge of the function of music in the church service
Music and liturgical planning skill
Compensation commensurate with experience.
