This Week's Church Musician Jobs Tip - Don’t Give Up

Have you ever had one of those Sundays?

You know what I mean – something happens and it makes you pause and reconsider why you ever became a church musician.

Here’s my latest brush with motivation examination.

The pastor’s email directive was clear. My instructions were to approach the stage during his prayer and start the song right away when he finishes.

So – that’s what I do. But, out of the corner of my eye I notice someone coming up to speak. Oh – a change, I thought. I can handle this. So I continue my musical background.

Next thing I know the speaker turns around and says, “Will you please stop?”

Ouch – that hurts. And to protect myself, I find myself running down the path of judgement, blaming and condemning everyone – until I realize the answer might be . . . my time is up.

And I feel the only escape is to quit.

BUT - about that same moment I had the realization that one day standing before Jesus, hearing Him ask me what I had done with the gifts He had given me, I cannot bare to tell Him that I quit because someone hurt my feelings.

So – and only, by God’s amazing and underserved grace I did not give up!

I know you can relate to this – we are all so full of ourselves, sometimes. . .

Church musician jobs can really wring us out – leaving us hurt and exhausted.

So take time to heal, just don’t give up!

All the best,
Jim Snedeker
